Each reading test contains two reading texts (in addition to the pre-test practice text).

The learner will need to move through all pages of the reading text before moving on to the questions for that text. This is to encourage learners to read the text before attempting to answer the questions.

If the learner presses the Next question button before moving through all pages of the text, a message will appear reminding them to read the whole text.

Once the learner has read the whole text, they can press the Next question button to move on to the questions. The reading text will remain visible on the screen throughout the test.

Navigating through the reading text

The learner can use the Next or Previous buttons to move through the pages of the reading text.

They can also select the number buttons to move to a specific page.

The learner can increase and decrease the size of the font in the reading text by pressing the A+ and A- buttons.

In the Year 3 tests, the text will move by default to the correct page of the text for each question to help support learners in answering the questions.

For Year 4 onwards, texts will not move to the relevant page for each question, as learners increase their skills in independent text navigation. In these tests, the text will stay on the page the learner last navigated to.
