Viewing the marking summary

Modified on Fri, 30 Aug at 1:18 PM

The Marking Summary screen can be accessed from the Score question screen. It is also the first screen to open after selecting an Autoscored (verify) question from the Question selection screen. It shows the progress of marking/verifying for the selected question. (See How to access teacher marking and verification)

The Score question button opens the learner responses for scoring or verifying. The Question selection button opens the Question selection screen to allow the selection of another question for marking or verifying.

Teacher scoring

The example below is for a Teacher scored question.

  • The list of all the learner names is given alongside the marking status for the learner and the score.
  • If the marking is complete, the status will show as ‘Complete’ and there will be a score (e.g., 0, 1 or 2 if a 2-mark question). Learners who omit a question are autoscored so will not appear in the marking summary.
  • If a learner response is not marked, the status will show as ‘Not started’ and there will be a blank for the score.
  • If one or more learners are selected using the tick boxes to the left of the learner names, the Score question button will open the scoring screens for the selected learners in alphabetical order.
  • If no learner is selected, the Score question button will re-open the screen for the last learner scored.

Each column can be sorted by selecting the double arrowhead. This can be useful if sorting by the Score column to select all the learners for whom marking is not started.

Autoscoring (verify)

The Summary screen is the first screen to open after selecting an Autoscored (verify) question from the Question selection screen. This is because a teacher may wish to choose not to verify all the learner responses in the selection. For example, responses scored 1 or X will be accurate according to the mark scheme, and therefore certainty of the marking can be assured. If the question is scored 0, this is when there is more likely to be ambiguity as there may be a small number of alternative ways of answering which a teacher may recognise as correct.

The Summary screen for autoscored (verify) questions is similar in appearance. However, there are no blank rows as all learners will have an autoscored mark and there is no ‘Marking status’ column.

The learners are sorted by score, with omitted responses at the top, then 0, 1 and so on. However, each column can be sorted by selecting the double arrowhead.

The maximum score available for the question can be found at the top of the Score column, where it will say Score (out of). Multiple learners can be selected and the ‘select all’ and ‘clear all’ buttons can be used to do this more easily.

When the Score question button is selected it will only display responses to be verified for learners selected on the Summary screen.
